Andrew Govenar is a Partner at Governmental Advocates, Inc., having joined the firm in 2000 as a lobbyist and strategic communications expert. Andrew works on a number of issue areas and has expertise in biotech/pharmaceutical, education, energy, health care, insurance, manufactured housing, state procurement, nonprofit/museum funding and workers compensation issues.
Among Andrew's current clients are: Access MediQuip, Advanced BioHealing, Autry National Center, BayBio — Northern California's Life Sciences Association, CompPharma, Consumer Health Alliance (CHA), GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Go For Broke National Education Center – 100th/442nd/MIS, National Football League (NFL), PMSI, Radiological Practitioners Assistant Society (RPAS), Stone River and Western Manufactured Communities Association (WMA).
Prior to joining Governmental Advocates, Andrew served as Deputy Press Secretary to former Speaker of the Assembly Antonio Villaraigosa and before that Andrew held the same position for former Senate President pro Tempore Bill Lockyer. In his professional capacity Andrew was also a Consultant to the Chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus, was a Counselor at Nelson Communications Group, a statewide public relations firm, and served as Director of Communications for the California Inaugural Committee for Gray Davis.
Andrew is experienced at coordinating legislative advocacy programs, corporate public relations efforts and legislative education initiatives for Fortune 500 companies, professional associations and non-profits. Andrew also has extensive local election expertise having overseen daily operations on a local growth initiative (Measure A) and daily media relations and grassroots coalition efforts on a statewide ballot measure (Proposition 9).
Andrew graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications from California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo.
